Fair Traditions & Favorite Memories
Weekly Theme: July 12th, 2026
For generations, a trip to the county or state fair has been a cherished summertime tradition. Whether it was the excitement of the midway, the aroma of fresh fair food, the livestock barns, colorful exhibits, or simply spending time with family and friends, fairs have created memories that last a lifetime.
In this session, participants will take a nostalgic look at the sights, sounds, and traditions that make fairs so special. Through virtual fair tours, engaging conversation, and interactive activities, everyone is invited to share favorite memories, compare fair experiences, and celebrate the community spirit that has made fairs a beloved tradition for generations.
A Day at the Fair
Exploring Fair Traditions & Favorite Memories
Opening (5–10 minutes)
Begin by asking:
  • Did you attend a state or county fair growing up?
  • What fair was closest to where you lived?
  • What was the first thing you wanted to see when you arrived?
  • Did you go with family, friends, or a school group?
  • What fair food or tradition do you remember most? ​

Let's Talk (15–20 minutes)
Conversation starters:
  • What parts of the fair tour reminded you of fairs you attended?
  • Which fair attraction would you visit first: animals, exhibits, food, rides, or entertainment?
  • What fair traditions have stayed the same over the years?
  • What changes have you noticed at fairs today?
  • If you could bring back one fair memory, what would it be?

Say "If we created a Celebrativity County Fair today, what blue ribbon would each person receive?"
It doesn't have to be a traditional fair category. For example: Best Storyteller, Friendliest Smile, Green Thumb, Best Family Recipe, Most Creative Crafter, Lifetime Baker, Master Gardener, Wonderful Photographer, Quilt Expert, or Community Helper
This creates a positive, affirming ending and can spark additional conversation and laughter.
