The article, “Four Butterflies: End of Life Stories of Transition and Transformation,” by Marcia Brennan, is incredibly inspiring. It describes her experience as an Artist in Residence at a palliative care center at The University of Texas, and how she collaborates with another artist, Lynn Randolph, to create visual art and poetry that reflects patients’ individual narratives.

I found the documentary, "Alive Inside" on Amazon, and have seen it on Netflix.  I highly recommend it to anyone who loves people, music, or are looking for a way to connect with those with dementia!  Some studies indicate that music can sometimes increase the cognitive abilities for those with dementia, bring memories back, and bring joy and relaxation. Similar results have been found with art and pet therapy. This movie was life changing for me. Let me know if you watch it. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Most people prefer to stay in their homes as they age. Small things can make a big difference with staying safe while remaining at home. Walk-in bathtubs, hand-held shower-heads, specialized flooring, such as stair treads and slip-resistant rugs, automatic shut-off timers for electrical appliances, and helpful lighting, such as motion sensor night lights and hands-free lighting.
