You can add warmth to your winter with musicals!

As the temperatures cool in these upcoming winter months, you may be interested in getting cozy inside watching a show or perhaps you would prefer a great excuse to go out. Watching musicals that you've seen in the past or discovering new ones may be the ticket to some interesting and enjoyable hours ahead over these next few months.
As the temperatures cool in these upcoming winter months, you may be interested in getting cozy inside watching a show or perhaps you would prefer a great excuse to go out. Watching musicals that you've seen in the past or discovering new ones may be the ticket to some interesting and enjoyable hours ahead over these next few months.

Musicals are a great way to keep your mind active and listening to songs that bring you joy can enhance mood which can positively impact your relationships. You might like watching musicals with a group or if watched separately, you could share it with others by making it a "watching" club where you watch the same show during the same week and then discuss it after.

Studies have found that listening to music can be beneficial to well-being, and when combining it with a great story, compelling lines, and entertaining scenarios, such as comedic skits and dancing, viewing them can become an enjoyable and healthy activity.

There are many places where you can find musicals; those shown below are available for free on YouTube. Choose a few and see if you get inspired.

Attending local performances is a wonderful way to support your community, and perhaps you might further engage by singing, dancing, or acting in musicals yourself. With there being more than 77 studies published about theater participation, there is an abundance of evidence showing many potential benefits of engaging in the community in this way.

It provides the opportunity to develop intergenerational relationships, interacting with and learning from people with different backgrounds. It promotes creativity and learning, and can even improve cognitive abilities such as word generation, memory, problem-solving, and comprehension.

​It also may lead to reduced anxiety and loneliness by strengthing connections with others and increasing fun, sense of purpose, and happiness. With these potential positive effects, it’s worth checking into opportunities today for watching, supporting, or participating for improved well-being.
