Socialize for a Better Life

My 81 year-old mother-in-law is always on the go with water aerobics, book clubs, trips, playing music and cards. I believe that is why she is so upbeat and happy. ​
How to stay engaged can be as unique as the individual. The choices are many: 
  • Continued employment (maybe part-time)
  • Travel
  • Exercise
  • Family and friends
  • Volunteering
  • Civic engagement
  • Church involvement
  • Attendance to community events
  • Participation in your local recreation centers

On top of the physical and mental benefits, socializing can help you to create stronger bonds with others that may lead to an extensive network of care. Begin today to reach out to others, engage in your hobbies, make improvements in your community, strengthen relationships, and increase your own happiness along the way!
Research shows that social interaction can improve physical health by reducing the chance of sickness and disease and improve mental health by preventing depression and memory loss. Chronic illness, loss of work, limited mobility, driving cessation, and difficulties with vision or hearing can all lead to social isolation. Because of the numerous health benefits, it is important to remember the importance of engaging with others.
