One twin was the ultimate optimist, always seeing the silver lining. “Everything is coming up roses!” he would cheerfully say. His twin, however, was a classic pessimist, seeing the world through a lens of doubt and negativity. In his eyes, even Murphy’s Law—"anything that can go wrong, will go wrong”—seemed too optimistic.
Worried about their sons' extreme outlooks, the parents decided to consult a psychologist for advice. The psychologist suggested an unusual experiment. For their next birthday, the parents should place the twins in separate rooms and give them very different gifts. The pessimist would receive the best toys money could buy, while the optimist would get a box of manure.

In our very busy world, it’s easy to let distractions stop us from journaling, even if we have heard how helpful it can be. Whether using an app, computer, or notebook, the practice can bring powerful effects.
